Iterations of past

Iterations of past is a series of intended NFTs drawing upon otherwise archived material from the 90s. And much of that subject matter hasn’t seen the light of day (since then) beyond the occasional reference within something else.

Primarily, nowadays my artwork has been installation and sculptural based, whereas in my youth it was mainly digital, photography, Photoshop, Bryce and so on.

I suppose, because much of that (older) material is of a meandering unstructured nature,  it gets put to one side and you move on. It’s only when you dig up this material in years to come that you realise it has real merit in its own right.

Iterations of past (although a relatively new venture) remains true to the original scheme of things apart from Vincent.

Vincent is a pixelated character that appears hidden within all the digital artworks (NFTs) of this series.  And features in more detail within his own artwork entitled Vincent rogue pixel.

What also fueled this collection into motion was the launch of Apple’s new Vision Pro, and the ability to view your NFTs  collection virtually in your own  home.  This is something I’m structuring my NFTs around.

Please note that no AI, third party stock photography or imagery was used in the production of this series of NFTs.

Vincent/rogue pixel

Dead and rogue pixels within images

Van Gogh's namesake (here) was sparked by the playful notion of this rogue little pixel guy named Vincent tagging my early work with his random pixels the moment my back was turned.  Yeah I know, I need to get out more!  But really, these rogue pixels frequently cropped up in my early digital media.

Anywho, this in turn sparked the idea of tagging my NFT series entitled "Iterations of past" with this (17 pixel) little guy and his pixel somewhere within the image. Please note that the likenesses of Vincent Van Gogh and his signature here are purely that. likenesses.

Sunflowers

I think I can safely say, like sunflowers, most of us are also sun worshipers. Sunflowers if you like. This triptych of sunflowers were sparked into creation by an amazingly vibrant  bunch of sunflowers in a shop window (on the dullest of grey days) that instantly brought to mind Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and the joy in his celebration of colour.

It’s hoped that this celebration of that moment has you (and its location) charged likewise. Triptych of sunflowers. 2024.

Please note that although a triptych, they are listed separately as left, middle and right.

Dark places

I’ve never been quite sure what to make of this one.  It set out as one of my rare, impromptu rambles that still eludes me to this day as to its true nature. And I’m guessing that the title (at that time) was an attempt to grasp its meaning, yet I don't think it's that clear cut. I’ve even gone to the expense of having it printed and framed (large) to broaden my perspective. And all I can say is I love it even more so now.  It has a real sense of the primal about it that pleases me.

I recall a Gogglebox viewer being appalled by the sexual leanings of another, yet their own nature would be considered deviant by most. The pious venomously championing purity yet behind closed doors they are something else. We say "The kettle calling the pan burnt arse” It means, you shouldn’t criticise others when you have similar tendencies yourself.  We all do it though!

OUTRAGE

Outrage. Breaking point. Saturation point.  Outrage is in response to the simmering turbulence here in the UK.  And I guess, the world over.  Corrupt, failing politicians, lies, policies, laws, systems, news, charity overload,  beggars, blaggers, scammers, hackers, immigration, fake news, bad news, and social media sleight of hand, all burden our minds to the point of destruction.  To the point of outrage.  And that is just the tip of a titanic iceberg. It’s collectively, critically damaging our state of mind. Our health. And the rain! We don’t even get a summer anymore lol

Seriously though. For just one day. Disconnect from the matrix. Time out. When you go to bed, turn OFF your phone and wake up the next day without all that baggage. No phone.  Be  completely unavailable remotely.  No television. No newspapers. No radio or angry music. For just one day disconnect from all that stuff that’s grinding your gears.  Have a time-out-and chill day. And if you can make it a family and friends thing, even better. For your sanity, pull the plug on at least one day a week and say, No!  This is my day!

Bloodline

Homage to Sci-fi. Age six.

I was bitten by the Sci-fi bug at a very early age; around six. I was on an Away-Mission to Mars with my mother, no, to stay with my uncles who lived in another town.  Another world.

They were both very avid scholars of Sci-fi, philosophy, astronomy and photography to name a few of their interests.  I recall stacks of Sci-fi books and their amazing illustrations of aliens, planets, space stations and space ships. Oil paintings of stars and planets. Piles of Air show magazines. StarTrek on TV. A massive telescope they had made along with hand grinding all the lenses and mirrors themselves. It was a massively infectious environment for a child.  Another world for a child.

Then, the release of Star Wars in the UK.  I was thirteen. Back then it was phenomenally groundbreaking. A “New Hope” you could say. A first.

As for all the amazing new Sci-fi out there now being written, illustrated and filmed, respect! And remember, “On the shoulders of giants” we all stand. You stem from a very pure Bloodline .

Music has always been an integral part of my creative process.  From creating music in my youth, to listening whilst I sculpt.  Album/cover vibrantly sets out to celebrate this connection.

Displaced

All four pieces were derived from two earlier pieces dating back to 2014/16 entitled Displaced, and Arms of dark places. Both featured rubbled casualties of war, mass displacement fleeing death, destruction and famine. Something that resonates even more so nowadays. Hence the awakening of such pieces yet again.

Hot

Hot. Although this piece bears little to no reference to aboriginal art culture, I was picking up on the Uluru hot blazing sun and thirst vibe at the time. Something of an outsider’s perspective I know.  Nevertheless, it’s  hot and I’m very thirsty.
